Meet 2023 Award Recipient

Ariella Belle Cohen

Ariella came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai after graduating from Princeton University with a degree in Neuroscience and minors in Spanish and Global Health and Health Policy. As an undergraduate in the Princeton Baby Lab, she studied the neural correlates of learning during joint book reading in preschool-aged children.

Since entering the MD program in 2019, Ariella has been involved in several research projects in the Pediatrics, Global Health, and Neurology departments and also volunteered in the Pediatric Associates Clinic to screen for and address families’ social needs. She served as a peer tutor as well as a teaching assistant for several preclinical courses. Additionally, Ariella was involved in the Medical Spanish course, both as a student and course leader, and she was ultimately certified as a bilingual provider.

Ariella would like to thank her family and friends, as well as the many classmates, residents, and faculty members, including Dr. Leora Mogilner, Dr. Joel Forman, Dr. Hillary Raynes, and Dr. Praveen Raju, who have served as exceptional teachers and role models throughout her time at Mount Sinai. Ariella is also grateful to the patients and families who have been such incredible teachers and continue to inspire her to be a pediatrician.

Ariella will graduate with her MD degree and continue her residency training in Child Neurology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
