Meet 2023 Award Recipient

Mary Daotung Sun

Mary came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in Computational Biology, Finance, and Health Care Management and Policy. Before attending Icahn, Mary worked as a product manager for Microsoft and was also a performing artist. She entered the MD/MSCR program in 2018.

While at Icahn, Mary co-founded the Diversity Innovation Hub, a unique community-driven incubator that tackles social determinants of health-driven disparities, and was a founding member of the national Times Up Healthcare movement and the Gender Equity Accelerator Council at Mount Sinai. She also concurrently earned a master's degree in software engineering from Harvard University and a master's degree in clinical research from Mount Sinai, completed a research fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, co-edited a bestselling textbook, and published over forty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Outside the classroom, she volunteered for the Mental Health Clinic of the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership Program, led behavioral health and education design projects at several health technology companies, and was elected into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

As a first-generation graduate, Mary would like to thank her incredible family, friends, and faculty mentors at Sinai who have made her journey through medicine possible.

Mary will graduate with her MD and MSCR degrees and continue her residency training in Psychiatry as part of the Child Track at the Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
