Sewit Bereket

Gold Humanism Honor Society Reward Recipient

The Gold Humanism Honor Society recognizes students, residents and faculty who are exemplars of compassionate patient care and who serve as role models, mentors, and leaders in medicine. Members are peer nominated and are the ones that others say they want taking care of their own family. Since its inception in 2002, Gold Humanism Honor Society has grown in influence to become a vital part of medical school and residency training program cultures throughout the US.

Here’s what Sewit’s peers had to say about their humanistic care in medicine:

It is clear to Sewit Bereket’s peers how much of an impact her compassionate care has on patients. Sewit is known to demonstrate kindness and empathy toward patients. She often ruminates on the social circumstances surrounding a patient’s care and discusses ways in which our society could do better to eliminate their barriers to healthcare and social services. As an advocate for patients from marginalized populations, Sewit constantly draws from her background in public health on their behalf. As a passionate champion for reproductive rights, she’s led the Medical Students for Choice group in organizing workshops to train students on care for patients affected by intimate partner violence, as well as talks on reproductive justice and incarceration, and panels to educate students about abortion and reproductive rights. Sewit is an incredible role model who is always going the extra mile to make sure the healthcare environment is more equitable for her classmates as well as her medical peers. With that, we would like to acknowledge and congratulate Sewit.
